简介：上世纪三十年代，刚从警校毕业的年轻姑娘吴曼，带着铲除邪恶、追求公平正义的理想，来到河城警察局，作实习警察。有人在光天化日之下，枪杀了街边摆摊的摊主，抢走了漂亮的姑娘。吴曼很快查清，作案者就是警察局的小胡子和背后的别处长。但就是这样一个简单明了的案子，却被推诿拖延，吴曼遭到威胁利诱，让其退出办案。吴曼发誓弄清真相，她闯入别处长的老窝，当别处长肆无忌惮地宣称自己就是要玩弄法律，玩弄正义，玩弄良心时，吴曼忍无可忍，脱下了自以为代表着法律、秩序的警服，处决了真凶。对社会秩序失望的吴曼退出了警察队伍，作推销员，接着又开了一家调查事务所，后来又进入警察局当了探长，但由于追求纯洁公平，又和邪恶势力成了对手。吴曼靠着自己的善良、智慧和勇敢，破解了一个又一个奇案谜团，战胜了一个又一个险恶的对手。
